Privacy Policy
This page explains, in plain English, what information is involved when you use thehangmangame.com, why, who else is involved and what choices you have. The short version: the game runs in your browser, there are no accounts and no ads, and your scores never leave your device.
Who runs this site
The Hangman Game (“we”, “us”) is a free website run by Akshay Bhargava from India. For any privacy question, write to support@thehangmangame.com.
What we collect
Nothing to play. You never need an account, and the game never asks for your name, age, phone number or address.
Server logs. Our host, Vercel, records basic technical details when a page is requested: IP address, browser type, the page asked for, the page you came from and the time. These logs keep the site running, block abuse and help fix errors. They are not tied to your name.
Messages you send. If you use the contact form or email us, we receive what you choose to share, usually your email address, an optional name, a topic and your message, so we can reply. When the form is connected to Web3Forms, it delivers the message to our inbox; otherwise it opens your own email app.
What stays on your device
The game saves a few small things in your browser's local storage so it remembers you between visits. This data never leaves your device and is never sent to us.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Wins, current streak, best streak and the stickers they unlock | Show your progress on the game |
| Daily Hangman results | Keep today's result and your daily streak |
| Theme and sound on or off | Remember how you like the site to look and sound |
| Level and keyboard layout | Start each game the way you set it |
You can wipe all of it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
Cookies and tracking
We do not set tracking cookies, we do not show ads, and we do not run analytics right now. If we ever add a visit counter such as Google Analytics, this page will be updated first, and the update will appear on the updates page.
Online rooms
When you play with a friend online, a small connection service from PeerJS helps the two browsers find each other using the room code. After that, guesses travel directly between the two devices. We do not store room codes, secret words, names or results. Two-player games on one device and custom game links never touch a server at all; the words in a custom link are packed inside the link itself.
The voice that reads words
“Say the word” uses the speech voice built into your device or browser. Depending on your device, your browser maker may process that short word to speak it, under its own privacy policy. We receive nothing.
How we use information
- To run, secure and fix the site.
- To reply to messages and act on feedback, word ideas and bug reports.
- To meet legal duties, such as answering a valid request from authorities.
We never sell personal information, and we only share it with the service providers named on this page, who use it solely to provide their service, or where the law requires.
Children and classrooms
This game is made for children, families and schools, so we built it to collect as little as possible. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age where you live), and nothing in the game asks for it. Children should not use the contact form without a parent or teacher. If you think a child has sent us personal details, email us and we will delete them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, to object to how it is used, and to withdraw consent.
- India: under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask for a summary of your data, its correction or erasure, and you can nominate someone to act for you.
- United States, including California: you can ask what we hold and ask us to delete it. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.
- EU, UK and Switzerland: you have the rights set out in the GDPR, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
To make a request, email support@thehangmangame.com with “Privacy request” in the subject. We reply within 30 days and will never treat you differently for asking.
How long we keep data
Contact messages are kept for up to two years so we can follow up, then deleted, or sooner if you ask. Server logs are kept by our host for a short time for security. Data in your browser stays until you clear it.
Security and international transfers
Every page is served over HTTPS. Our providers (Vercel, Web3Forms and PeerJS) may handle data in other countries, including the United States, under their own safeguards. No system is perfectly secure, but because we collect so little, there is very little to protect.
Links to other sites
Some pages link to other websites, including our sister sites. Once you leave this site, their own privacy policies apply.
Changes to this policy
If we change how data is handled, we will update this page and the date at the bottom. Bigger changes will also be noted on the updates page.
Contact and grievances
Questions, requests or complaints about privacy: support@thehangmangame.com or the contact page. Akshay Bhargava acts as the grievance officer for this site.
