The custom Hangman maker turns any list of words into a game you can share. Type one word per line, add a meaning after a dash if you want, and copy the link. When someone opens the link, the Hangman game plays only those words, and shows your meanings at the end of each round.
What you can make with it
Teachers use it for weekly spelling lists and unit vocabulary. Parents use it to drill the five words a child keeps missing. Friends use it for themed party rounds, like names of family pets or favorite foods. You can add up to 60 words and a title of your own.
Meanings are optional but worth it. A short meaning after each word turns a guessing game into a vocabulary lesson, and kids remember words better when they know what they mean.
Where your words are kept
Your list is packed into the link itself as a short code. There is no database, no account and nothing for us to store or lose. That also means anyone with the link can see the words, so keep test answers to yourself until test day.
Links can be long. If you want a shorter one, paste it into any link shortener, or post it in your class page where students can tap it.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make a Hangman game with my own words?
Type your words in the box, one per line, and copy the link that appears below. Open the link to play, or send it to others. Each round picks one of your words at random.
Can I add meanings to my custom words?
Yes. After a word, type a space, a dash, another space and the meaning, like comet - a ball of ice in space. The meaning shows when the round ends.
How many words can a custom Hangman game have?
You can add up to 60 words, each up to 30 characters long. That covers most weekly lists and vocabulary units. For more, make two separate links.
Do custom game links expire?
No. The words are stored in the link itself, so it keeps working as long as this site is online. You can save it in a bookmark or class notes.
Can I edit a custom game after sharing it?
Not the same link, since the words are part of the link. Make a new link with your changes and share that one instead.
Can students open a custom game on their own devices?
Yes. The link works in any web browser on a Chromebook, iPad, phone or laptop, and nobody has to sign in. Post it on your class page and each student plays the list at their own pace.
Is this a random Hangman word generator?
Not quite: the maker plays only the words you give it, in random order. If you want the computer to choose for you, the main game picks from over 600 hand-checked words across topic and grade lists.
Are custom words private?
They are not saved on our server, but anyone who has the link can see them by playing. Do not put private information in a game.
