About The Hangman Game
The Hangman Game is a free word game for anyone who wants to spell a little better while having fun: kids, parents, teachers and people learning English. This page tells you who makes it, why, and what you can count on.

LinkedIn profileWhy I made a Hangman site
Hangman was the first game I ever played that was really about words. A chalk line on the board, a row of blanks, and a whole class shouting letters. Years later I went looking for a version a child could play online, and I kept landing on pages that made you sit through an ad before the first guess, asked for a login, or never showed what the word meant once the round was over.
That last part bothered me most. The best moment in Hangman is when the word finally clicks, and that is exactly when you can learn it. So I built the version I wished existed: the word is shown in full, read aloud letter by letter, and paired with a short meaning a seven-year-old can follow.
What you will find here
- The Hangman game itself, with a stick buddy, a melting snowman, a rocket and a diver, plus a sidekick who helps when you ask for a hint.
- Topic word lists and grade 1 to 5 spelling lists, each with its own game.
- A daily word, two-player mode and private online rooms for friends on different devices.
- A solver, a custom game maker for weekly spelling lists, and printable sheets.
- Plain guides to the rules, strategy and the hardest words.
How the words are chosen
No word list on this site came from a scraper. I go through each one by hand, drop anything rude, frightening or too grown-up, and write the meanings in short, everyday language. Grade lists follow the spelling patterns most US schools teach at each level, and I test them with real kids before they go live. If you ever find a word that feels wrong for children, tell me and it will be gone the same week.
Built to be safe and private
The whole game runs inside your browser. There are no accounts, no chat with strangers and no ads. Wins, streaks, stickers and settings are kept in your own browser storage, so I never see them. The privacy policy spells out every detail.
My other free sites
This is the third free tool I run, and they all follow the same idea: load fast, skip the sign-up, and do one thing well.
- Wheel Decide is a spinning wheel for picking names, prizes, chores or what to have for dinner.
- Play Dots and Boxes is the classic pencil-and-paper game against a clever computer, with puzzles and classroom tools.
My promise to you
- The game stays free, with nothing locked behind a payment.
- No accounts, and the least data possible. Your information is never sold.
- Every page is written by a person who plays the game, and mistakes get fixed when you point them out.
Curious what changed lately? The updates page lists every release, newest first.
